Lawn bowls is a popular hobby of residents at our Albany village and you will often find a game or two underway. One resident who had very much enjoyed bowling was Frank Morel, who sadly passed away in July 2016 shortly before the green was updated.
In his memory, Margaret Morel instigated an inaugural competition for the Frank Morel trophy. The inaugural competition was held on Australia Day as part of a Sports Day at the Village. Residents enjoyed a day of bowls, croquet, scrabble, pool and table tennis. There’s nothing quite like a bit of healthy competition to get the blood pumping!
The beautiful wooden Frank Morel trophy was made by the Albany’s Men’s Shed and donated to the Village by Margaret. The triumphant winners of the 2018 trophy were Frank Raab and Randal Fosbender. We are looking forward to next year’s competition to see who is the next worthy winner of the Frank Morel trophy!
Just last week our residents hosted another lawn bowls tournament where they invited neighbours from the area to a day of competition. It was a great opportunity to meet and make new friends with those who they might not already know, and also an excellent opportunity for a catch-up for those who are already good friends. The weather has been touch and go in Albany of late so seeing the sun on the morning of the competition gave a lot of relief to the organisers and participants. Once the sports business was over and done with, residents had a drink or two at the Clubhouse with their friends before winding down a successful day.
