Christmas at St Ives

The festive season is finally here! Celebrating Christmas in your retirement years is a special time. With the pressures of raising a family and a job out of the way, your retirement years is the time when you get to relax and enjoy the fruits of your labour.

However for some, Christmas might not be the best time of the year. Growing older can be a lonely period and the festive season might be a difficult reminder of circumstances that may have happened. The recent pandemic has brought to light how vulnerable one can be in a crisis, especially when living in isolation.

Which is why one of the biggest benefits of retirement living is the community that residents are surrounded by. At St Ives, Christmas is a time that’s filled with good food, drinks and festive celebrations with friends and family. Every year, residents at St Ives look forward to the annual Christmas party where they get to celebrate with the community with music, food and even a visit from Santa! Events such as Christmas parties are organised to encourage residents to mingle with each other and celebrate together.

In this blog, we have some tips on how you can make the most out of your Christmas celebrations in your retirement years!

Stay hydrated

With all the celebrations going on, it is easy to get caught up with the festivities and forget to drink enough water. While it’s usually fine to have a glass or two of wine, especially in the festive season, alcohol causes the body to expel water and even a mild dehydration can cause a headache, which could impact your enjoyment of the celebrations! You can read more about how you can stay healthy during the festive season here!

Join in the celebrations

At St Ives, there are annual Christmas parties that are organised by an events community. This is a good time to mingle with the community in St Ives and get to know your neighbours around you. While large, boisterous parties may not be for everyone, it is a good idea to join in the festivities for a short while (and munch on some Christmas goodies!) before returning to your home for a rest.

Invite guests into your home

Christmas is a time of giving and what better way to give than through your hospitality and food! Invite your friends and even your family over for a Christmas lunch. If you’re not in the mood to cook a feast or cooking is simply not your forte, get your guests to bring a dish each. This way it takes the pressure off you as the host and your guest gets to bring their favourite Christmas dish. You can also choose to invite your neighbours within the St Ives community as a way to meet them in a small and intimate setting.

At the end of the day, Christmas is best celebrated when celebrating with community! At St Ives, more than facilities and amenities for residents to enjoy, it is the people they meet and friends they’ve made within the community that matters the most.
