Anzac Day Services Held Across Villages

St Ives Centro Anzac Day

Every year our residents at each village come together for an Anzac Day service to honour servicemen and women past and present, and to reflect on what Anzac Day means to them. Our villages all hold different events which are organised by residents and vary year to year. Here’s an insight into this year’s services.

Mandurah

Over 100 residents attended the morning service at the Village this year. Monique, a 13-year-old schoolgirl from Penrhos College played the bugle for the Last Post, and resident (and ex-servicewoman from the Women’s Royal Naval Service in England) Jenny Casling organised a flyover by pilot Ashley Dewing in a Sling 2 plane. After the service the residents had a game of two up before sitting down for a lunch.

Murdoch

Over 240 residents met at the bowling green outside the Clubhouse for a service. The Village choir sang the National anthem and there was also a reading of a poem and raising of the flag followed by brunch.

Northshore

The service at our Northshore village was held in the Clubhouse, with residents heading outside to the flagpole for the laying of the wreaths and raising of the flag. Major John Vincent OAM, a new resident at the Village, addressed the attendees and the poem ‘War Graves at Taraken’ by Andrew Latham was read. After the playing of the Last Post and one minute of silence to honour and reflect, residents shared lunch.

Centro

After a lovely service which included a song from the Choir, residents sat down for a meal together.

Albany

Our residents at Albany shared a Ploughman’s lunch in the Clubhouse and took some time to remember. Several residents attended the RSL Troop march and service in the Albany Peace park which was attended by mark McGowan this year and included sailors from the Royal Australian Navy who were in port.
